A Quieter Kind of Care Is Opening in Edmonds

Quick answer ·

Before this clinic there were many rooms, including people relearning to walk after surgery. A first letter from Kilbo Yun, D.C., as Levitas opens in Edmonds.

Hello. I’m Kilbo Yun, and I’ve just opened a small practice on Edmonds Way.

Before this, I spent more than a decade on the other side of the room — coaching, training, walking people through rehab. That is where I learned most of what I know, and almost none of it came from a textbook.

Before this room, there were many rooms.

People learning to walk again after surgery. New mothers — and the babies in their arms. An expecting mother who couldn’t find a way to sleep. An athlete two weeks out, telling no one. People carrying long illnesses like Parkinson’s or MS, still moving a little every day. Older neighbours, for whom one stair had become the day’s biggest task. And my parents, my friends, my neighbours.

What I learned was this: by the time someone finally asks for help, they have usually been quietly managing it for a very long time.

Pain is rarely just a body problem.

It changes how you sleep. It changes how you speak to the people you love. It quietly shortens the list of things you say yes to — the hike, the flight, the grandchild you’d like to pick up. So I don’t only ask where it hurts. I ask what you’ve been giving up lately. That answer usually matters more.

Levitas is Latin for lightness.

Not weightless — nobody gets that. Just less to carry. It’s the word for what a body feels like the moment it stops bracing: shoulders that drop an inch, a breath that finally goes all the way down. I named the clinic after the feeling I want you to have on the way out — not after a technique.

Layers, stacked and evenly loaded.

The mark is a stack of layers. Every layer carries its share. When one takes more than its part, the whole stack has to work harder just to stay upright. Often it isn’t one sore back — it’s a load that stopped being shared properly somewhere upstream.

We ask why it hurts — not only where.

A door that sticks is rarely the door’s fault. You can sand the edge every season, or you can check whether the frame has settled. Bodies work the same way. We look at the frame.

Mostly, we listen first.

Then we look at how you move. Then I tell you plainly what I see, in words you could repeat to your family at dinner. If something isn’t a good fit for me to care for, I’ll say so and help you find the right place. If you’ve been holding back because it felt like making a fuss, you don’t have to do that here. Korean is welcome — the harder a symptom is to explain in English, the more accurate it will be in your own language.

The door is open. Come as you are.

You don’t need a diagnosis to walk in, and you don’t need to have tried everything else first. Bring the thing you’ve been quietly working around. We’ll start there, together, at whatever pace your body allows.
